The racial disparity we are facing in this country needs fixed and I am hungry for change. I’m heartbroken, angry, motivated, confused and determined depending on the day. I realize that standing on the sidelines is no longer enough. Here are a few small things I commit to doing to help improve my corner of the world:
- I will put my money where mouth is and support organizations that fight for equality like the NAACP, ACLU and Black Lives Matter.
- I will support organizations that provide healthy food to EVERYONE like SAME Cafe and Mini’s Food Pantry (literally in my backyard!).
- I will continue to grow healthy food for local food pantries at the Plano Community Garden
- I will organize neighborhood events and gatherings to build community and get to know my neighbors.
- I will display a yard sign that Hate Has No Home Here.
This doesn’t seem like much in the wake of all the unrest in the world. But this is a start. And I promise to do better.
